After many months and interesting life changes, Haikou Enters Beta

I’ve been working on and off on Haikou since its initial demo release last October. After finding my motivation to work again and getting past some pretty serious writers block, I made it over the hump and out of development hell. The game is now entering its Beta stage which shouldn’t take all that long maybe a month or less, to test for bugs and get feedback from the playtesters. It is not a masterpiece by any means but it is mine, and it is my first full-length game. I am excited to see it completed and also for everyone’s impression of it. I am not a huge fan of the horror genre so this is very mild in that respect but i was curious to move out of my comfort zone and see what i could do.

The past few months have entailed moving to a new place, reconnecting with my friends and family, and meeting someone new! Haikou was started when I was significantly depressed which is reflected in the quality of some of the earlier scenes and the writing of some of the latter. It has been a comfortable outlet to pour myself into even if only a little. While working through this game and coming to terms with some of what has happened in my personal life, I have actually written the skeleton of my next games story. The themes, motif, art style, and message are all fleshed out and far more cohesive. In my new positive state of mind i am reminded that games are art and all that really matters is that i love what i do. I can’t wait to continue doing what love: making things. The note on my phone, chock full of ideas for other projects, is getting heavy! I hope you all enjoy hearing about them as much as i do making them!

Until next time,

-Cryo
